Prominent African-American speaker, K. Carl Smith, will discuss “Frederick Douglass’ Rise from Slavery to Prosperity: The Importance of a Free and Prosperous America” on Monday, September 11, 2017 at 7:00 p.m., University of Dayton, Kennedy Union Ballroom. Admission is free and open to the public. Refreshments served.
As an expert on Frederick Douglass, K. Carl Smith will present the inspiring story of abolitionist, statesman, author, orator, and ex-slave Frederick Douglass. Attendees will learn how Frederick Douglass overcame slavery through education, a disciplined work ethic, land-ownership to create wealth, starting his own business, and using photography to remove cultural barriers. Frederick Douglass rose from slavery to prosperity and a position of eminence, becoming an adviser to Presidents–the ultimate American Dream Story.
Describing himself as a “Frederick Douglass Republican” who loves his country, K. Carl Smith is a former Army officer, graduate of Alabama A&M University, and an unyielding defender of the Constitution and Liberty. In 2011 Governor Robert Bentley appointed Smith to the Alabama Amistad Commission and the Affordable Homeowners Insurance Commission. Easily connecting with teens and millennials, Smith regularly receives standing ovations.
This event is hosted by the University of Dayton College Republicans and sponsored by the Greater Dayton Women’s Republican Club, Ohio Representative Niraj Antani, Ohio Representative Jim Butler, Joshua Christian Ministries, and Mr. Harry Bossey.

1. Let’s look at federal control of education.
2015-2016: Congress voted to reauthorize No Child Left Behind, most recently called ESSA.
After being put in place in 2001, this act took federal controls over states rights to educate children. This was done to start the track to Common Core. I believe once Common Core
became more and more despised congress had to act fast to reauthorize its controls before states took back control. Common Core is NCLB and is now called ESSA.
Heritage Action feels this vote significantly altered states’ rights and places control of educating children firmly in the hands of the federal government and reduces opportunities for children. In addition, it
decreases choices for parents.
Thank you Shelby County Liberty member Doug Jackson for sharing this timeless piece from Paul Harvey. An audio version can be found here.
Now then, what makes a nation strong? Taxes? (Heh) There’s nothing new about those either, the first income tax was paid by Abraham. It was written on a rock by the hand of Divinity and handed to Moses at the top of Mount Sinai (and you might want to remember this) it was at the flat rate of 10%. It promised the wrath of God on anybody who tampered with or violated that law. Christ was born in Bethlehem because Joseph was on his way to pay his taxes. Joseph was a relatively well-to-do landowner of the house and lineage of David. Yet the taxes exacted by Caesar Augustus were so exorbitant that he didn’t have enough money left over to employ a trusted messenger for the mission so, though his wife was great with child, he made the journey himself. And Christ was born in Bethlehem because Joseph was on his way to pay his taxes. And Christ was born in a manger because there was a housing shortage when he got there. Our problems are not new. Akron, OH – Tom Zawistowski, President of the Ohio Citizens PAC and Executive Director of the Portage County TEA Party, called the lack of a vote today in the Ohio House to override Governor Kasich’s veto of the Medicaid Expansion Freeze a “cowardly act.” Zawistowski explained “The decision by Ohio Speaker of the House Cliff Rosenberger to not hold a vote to override Governor Kasich’s veto of the Medicaid Exapnsion Freeze “because they measure did not have 60 votes” is a cowardly act by the Speaker and a betrayal of his oath of office and his responsibility to protect the financial interests of the tax payers of Ohio. It is an outright lie to say the House does not hold the vote because there are not 60 votes necessary to override the veto. The real reason that they don’t hold the vote is to let cowardly House Members, who also want to betray the tax payers in their district for selfish reasons, to be able hide and not pay the consequences of their betrayal. People like Rick Carfagna (R-Dist 68), Gary Scherer (R-Dist 92), Brian Hill (R-Dist 97), Laura Lanese (R-Dist 23), Nathan H. Manning (R-Dist 55), Mike Duffey (R-Dist 21), Niraj J. Antani (R-Dist 42), Jeffery S. Rezabek (R-43), and Jay Edwards (R- Dist 94) all want to go home and tell constituents in their primary next year that they voted for the Medicaid Expansion Freeze in the Budget, when really they were the ones who protected the Governor’s veto and in doing so knowingly subject the tax payers in their districts to billions of dollars of additional Medicaid costs in the next two years and beyond. This is a willful act of betrayal by these cowards and others. They know the numbers. They have seen the dire projections of what happens if we don’t get Medicaid Expansion under control. So, why would any decent human being not vote to stop it? If Speaker Rosenberger was acting in the best interest of Ohio’s Tax Payers and citizens, he would hold a vote and everyone’s positions would be on the record. You can bet that many of the 12 or so House Members who sabotaged this vote would vote yes if the voters could know how they voted. In giving them the opportunity to hide their real votes, Speaker Rosenberger shows that he does not respect the will of the people and insults us all with this pathetic game of hide and seek. I can assure Speaker Rosenberger and the member of the Ohio House who have betrayed their voters, and all of Ohio, that we will be reminding the voters in their districts about what they have done and we will be recruiting candidates to run against them in the primary.”

WASHINGTON D.C. – Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) released the following statement after voting for the American Health Care Act (H.R. 1628):
“While it falls short of Republican campaign promises and the Better Way agenda, the passage of the AHCA marks an important step forward to fixing our broken health care economy. Reforms to Medicaid, work requirements for able-bodied adults, and defunding Planned Parenthood are no small victories. Americans are actively suffering under Obamacare and this bill brings much-needed and long-promised relief.
“House Republicans must remember that the AHCA is just the first step. The AHCA deals with the individual market; it does not directly address the way most Americans access health care coverage. We must continue pushing to help markets rein in costs and expand affordable choices across the nation, while protecting meaningful coverage. Far more needs to be done, and we must not rest until we have accomplished the mission.”
