Update on Medicaid Expansion Freeze Vote

Akron, OH – Tom Zawistowski, President of the Ohio Citizens PAC and Executive Director of the Portage County TEA Party, called the lack of a vote today in the Ohio House to override Governor Kasich’s veto of the Medicaid Expansion Freeze a “cowardly act.”  Zawistowski explained “The decision by Ohio Speaker of the House Cliff Rosenberger to not hold a vote to override Governor Kasich’s veto of the Medicaid Exapnsion Freeze “because they measure did not have 60 votes” is a cowardly act by the Speaker and a betrayal of his oath of office and his responsibility to protect the financial interests of the tax payers of Ohio. It is an outright lie to say the House does not hold the vote because there are not 60 votes necessary to override the veto. The real reason that they don’t hold the vote is to let cowardly House Members, who also want to betray the tax payers in their district for selfish reasons, to be able hide and not pay the consequences of their betrayal. People like Rick Carfagna (R-Dist 68), Gary Scherer (R-Dist 92), Brian Hill (R-Dist 97), Laura Lanese (R-Dist 23), Nathan H. Manning (R-Dist 55), Mike Duffey (R-Dist 21), Niraj J. Antani (R-Dist 42), Jeffery S. Rezabek (R-43), and Jay Edwards (R- Dist 94) all want to go home and tell constituents in their primary next year that they voted for the Medicaid Expansion Freeze in the Budget, when really they were the ones who protected the Governor’s veto and in doing so knowingly subject the tax payers in their districts to billions of dollars of additional Medicaid costs in the next two years and beyond. This is a willful act of betrayal by these cowards and others. They know the numbers. They have seen the dire projections of what happens if we don’t get Medicaid Expansion under control. So, why would any decent human being not vote to stop it? If Speaker Rosenberger was acting in the best interest of Ohio’s Tax Payers and citizens, he would hold a vote and everyone’s positions would be on the record. You can bet that many of the 12 or so House Members who sabotaged this vote would vote yes if the voters could know how they voted. In giving them the opportunity to hide their real votes, Speaker Rosenberger shows that he does not respect the will of the people and insults us all with this pathetic game of hide and seek. I can assure Speaker Rosenberger and the member of the Ohio House who have betrayed their voters, and all of Ohio, that we will be reminding the voters in their districts about what they have done and we will be recruiting candidates to run against them in the primary.”
